What You Need To Know
     The Weather

The weather in the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding
areas is best described as changeable. Experienced  meteorologists have a
difficult time predicting the weather patterns accurately. The rainfall
averages in the mountains and foothills is similar for each month of the year.
The temperatures are generally mild throughout the riding season.
It is possible however to encounter drastic changes in just a few miles of
riding, particularly as the elevation changes. With morning lows sometimes
dipping into the 40's and highs potentially in the 90's, you must be prepared
for anything. We recommend that you bring a quality breathable rain suite
and at least a lightweight jacket and gloves. We will ride rain or shine unless
unusually heavy rains or winds are present.

    Riding Gear

Riding gear is largely your own decision. You will be required to wear a DOT
approved helmet at all times while operating your motorcycle on public and
most private roads and driveways. The following checklist is considered to
be the minimum of items you would want to have with you while
motorcycling. We will provide a more comprehensive list with your
    reservation.
    1. Quality Helmet with eye protection. (Face shields are a plus in the rain!)
    2. Riding boots or heavy shoes (no sandals or flipflops please!)
    3. Quality rain suit (Frogg Toggs™ or similar work well in our climate)
    4. Protective Clothing (Joe Rocket™, First Gear™ or similar) don't forget the
    gloves. We don't recommend shorts!
    5. Sunglasses or goggles
    6. Waterproof Sunscreen
    7. Cotton Head cover i.e. do-rag, bandana.
    8. Camera and lots of film (or memory cards).

    Proper Attire

Dress should be relaxed and comfortable. We recommend golf shirts, and
tennis shorts or casual slacks at the resorts during the daytime and
business casual in the evening. Please keep in mind that evening attire in
some of the facilities require coat and tie for the Gentleman and a dress or
slacks for the Ladies. Please remember to bring your swim suit for the pool,
spa or boating opportunities. Golf courses are located at or near all the
resorts so don't forget to bring your shoes and clubs to take advantage of
these beautiful courses. While walking through town, shorts and t-shirt are
practical for daytime but the evenings may be cool so we recommend jeans
or slacks and maybe a light jacket. Bring comfortable walking shoes.

    Motorcycle Rentals

Due to the cost of insurance and damage repair, most motorcycle
manufactures and rental agencies do not offer motorcycle rentals. However,
Harley-Davidson Motorcycles™ is currently offering rentals through most of
its dealers. We will assist you in locating one of the local shops offering
rentals for you to make a reservation. You must make the reservation and
you will need to sign the waivers and forms in person. Please check with
your insurance company prior to reserving your motorcycle. Some policies
do not cover rentals or are limited in the coverage. If you are unable to
ascertain your coverage prior to pickup, we suggest you opt for the liability
and damage insurance that is offered with each rental at an additional cost.
The rentals require a valid motorcycle license endorsement and insurance.
You must be at least 21 years of age (some require you to be 25 years of
age) with one year riding experience on a similar size and weight of
motorcycle. We will arrange transportation to the shop from the airport. This
is part of our service in all of our retreats. We will help you arrange the
return of your rental and follow-up transportation, as your itinerary requires.
